Digital Nomad Visa

Non- European Union citizens wishing to live and work remotely from Greece require a special visa and/ or residence permit.

Aiming to welcome and facilitate Digital Nomads, Greek Immigration Law allows Non- European Union citizens working remotely with the use of digital technology to apply for a visa and subsequently a Greek residence permit for Digital Nomads.

Digital Nomads, are persons who earn a living working online or remotely from a location of their choosing (instead of a fixed business location).

Digital Nomads, for the purposes of the Greek digital nomad visa, are citizens of non- EU countries who are self- employed, freelancers or employees, who work remotely with the use of information and communication technologies, with employers or clients established exclusively outside Greece.

Digital Nomads desiring to work remotely from Greece may apply for an entry visa, valid for a duration up to 12 months, provided that:

  • The applicant states that they do not intend to work or provide services in any way in Greece.
  • The applicant provides proof of their occupation or employment for a duration covering the validity of the visa.
  • The applicant provides proof that they dispose of sufficient funds in order to cover their living expenses and those of their family members (where accompanied by family members).

The Digital Nomad may be accompanied by their family members, which include their spouse and children under the age of 18 years old.

The minimum amount of income required is 3500 euros per month. This income may be proved either through employment or service agreements or through the applicant’s bank statements.

Where the applicant is accompanied by their family, the minimum income required is increased by 20% for the spouse and 15% for each child.

After entering in Greece with the visa or when the applicant already lives in Greece, it is possible to apply for a Greek residence permit, which is valid for 2 years and may be renewed thereafter.

Long periods of absence from Greece do not affect the validity of the Residence Permit, provided that they do not exceed six months per year.
